Onondaga Athletic Club

The Onondaga Athletic Club (OAC) is a community based organization, which promotes the traditional moral values of Honor, Dedication and Community service.

The OAC continues to serve the population of Onondaga and her friends, promoting fair play and goodwill through Sports. The concepts of Unity and Friendship remain foremost in the hearts and minds of its participants, and will be exemplified with dignity in all of its functions.

The OAC remains non-political and open to the views of others, respecting the natural laws of Diversity, and its inherent strengths. The OAC encompasses all ages and will promote all programs designed to foster the ideals of Positive Social Interaction.

With full spirit and tradition the OAC shall continue to lay the foundation for its next generation by protecting and forwarding their own respective Legacy in Onondaga sports

The People of the Longhouse have named this game Deyhontsigwahes (Dey-hoon-chee-gwa-ehs) “they bump hips” this is a translation of an Onondaga word describing the action so prominent in the playing of the game. We know this game as “the Creators game” and we truly believe that he indeed, knows every player’s mind and disposition, lacrosse players are therefore bound to play with the utmost respect for themselves and their opponents, mindful to avoid anger, vanity and brutality, paying respectful homage to the winners, as the outcome is always, the Creator’s will.

The passion that encompasses and defines the male spirit is inherent and indivisible to the game, as the creator had originally intended, and played with the disciplines of dignity and honor.

The power of the game is sacred as it demands the purity of mind, body and spirit, the lack of any of these three components, we believe, weakens the man and presents the opportunity for failure.

As we are taught, from the moment we are able to hold the stick, and comprehend the game, the game itself is of divine origin, not human invention, handed down from the Creator to his male children for their benefit and his enjoyment, for indeed children are the Creators’ favorite part of all creation.
